Aki district

Aki district, Administrative district in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan

Aki district is an administrative area in Hiroshima Prefecture comprising four main towns: Fuchū, Kaita, Kumano, and Saka. These communities are connected through local transportation routes and collectively form the district's urban and rural landscape.

The district was officially established on November 1, 1878, and underwent major reorganization in the early 2000s when several towns consolidated with adjacent municipalities. These administrative shifts defined the current structure.

The towns here each celebrate their own local traditions, with Saka known for its sake brewing heritage and Kumano for handcrafted goods. These traditions remain visible in daily commercial and community life.

The district is well connected by train and bus lines to major centers, making its towns accessible from surrounding areas. Plan your route based on which town you wish to visit, as each offers different attractions and services.

Mazda's automobile manufacturing plant has operated here since the 1930s, making it one of the company's longest-running production sites. This factory fundamentally shaped the district's modern industrial character.
