Kanzaki district, Administrative district in Saga Prefecture, Japan
Kanzaki district is an administrative area in Saga Prefecture in northern Hizen, encompassing approximately 44 square kilometers of land. The region contains the Yoshinogari site, a major archaeological location with reconstructed structures from the Yayoi period.
The area was inhabited during the Yayoi period (around 300 BCE to 300 CE), as the Yoshinogari site proves. After the Meiji Restoration in 1872, the traditional administrative structure transformed into modern prefectural governance.
The Yoshinogari site displays remains of an early settlement with houses and tools from the Yayoi period, showing how people lived and worked here centuries ago. Visitors can observe how family and community life were tightly interwoven in this ancient place.
The area is accessible via the Nagasaki Main Line and several national highways connecting to Saga City. Visitors should know that the Yoshinogari site has paths and information boards, but exploring it thoroughly requires time and comfortable shoes.
The district's boundaries align perfectly with Yoshinogari municipality, a rare feature in Japanese administrative divisions. This alignment makes it straightforward for visitors to understand and explore the entire region.
