Musashi University, Private university in Nerima, Japan
Musashi University is a private institution in the Nerima ward, with buildings dedicated to economics, humanities, and sociology. The campus stretches across several blocks in the Ekoda neighborhood, connecting classrooms with administrative facilities.
Nezu Kaichirō, a businessman, founded the institution in 1922 as a boys school. It gained university status after World War II in 1949.
The name Musashi comes from the historical province that once covered much of present-day Tokyo. Visitors notice the generous green spaces across the grounds, which set the campus apart from the more densely built surrounding neighborhoods.
The campus sits about twenty minutes from Ikebukuro and Shinjuku stations. Visitors should arrange campus tours in advance, as access to certain areas may be restricted.
The bookshop on campus carries literary works by local authors alongside textbooks. Several student clubs organize activities from archery to astronomy that take place outside regular class hours.
