Hakata Port Tower, Observation tower in Hakata Port, Japan
Hakata Port Tower is a white and red steel structure standing 103 meters tall at Hakata Port. The observation deck sits at 70 meters high, offering views across Fukuoka City and the port area below.
Designed by architect Tachu Naito, the tower opened on October 17, 1964. It became the first major landmark built at Hakata Port after World War II.
The tower belongs to a group of six communication and observation towers built across Japan in the 1960s, known together as the Six Tower Brothers. These towers hold special meaning for many Japanese people as symbols of that era and landmarks that shape their city skylines.
Access to the observation deck is free daily from 10:00 to 16:40, except Wednesdays. Parking is available on-site, making it easy to arrive by car.
The tower underwent renovation in 2022, receiving new LED lighting that changes color patterns according to the seasons and local events. This lighting transforms the waterfront view when evening falls.
