Futamatashimmachi Station, railway station in Ichikawa, Chiba prefecture, Japan
Futamatashimmachi Station is an elevated passenger railway station on the Toyo Rapid Line in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. The station sits on a viaduct above street level and connects riders traveling between central Tokyo and the eastern suburbs.
The station opened in 1969 when the Toyo Rapid Line extended its service into Ichikawa. From the start it was part of a through-service agreement with the Tokyo Metro network, making it one of the earlier examples of cross-operator rail connections in the region.
The station's name combines two older place names, reflecting the history of the area where two separate settlements once stood. From the elevated platform, riders get a clear view over the dense urban fabric of Ichikawa.
The station is operated by Toyo Rapid Railway and has both elevators and stairs leading up to the elevated platforms. It works well as a starting point for journeys heading into central Tokyo or deeper into Chiba Prefecture.
Although the station sits in Ichikawa, many trains on the line run through it without stopping, halting only on certain services or at certain times. This makes it slightly less predictable than other stops on the same route, so checking the service pattern before boarding is worth the effort.
