Komaru Castle, Archaeological site of Japanese castle in Echizen, Japan.
The castle remains include stone ramparts, dry moats, and foundation traces positioned on a small hill at the southern edge of Fukui Plain.
General Sassa Narimasa, under the command of Oda Nobunaga, constructed Komaru Castle in 1575 as a military stronghold during the Sengoku period.
The excavated roof tiles from Komaru Castle contain inscriptions documenting the suppression of the Ikkō-ikki Buddhist militant movement in the region.
Visitors can reach the castle ruins by taking a 15-minute drive from the Takefu interchange of the Hokuriku Jidoshado Expressway.
Archaeological investigations in 1932 revealed earthen foundations, gate remnants, and a tower base, leading to its designation as a Fukui Prefectural Historic Site.
