Kurono Castle, Historical castle ruins in Gifu, Japan
The site of Kurono Castle contains remnants of moats, earthen walls, and foundation stones that outline the original castle structure footprint.
Katō Sadayasu constructed Kurono Castle in 1597 during the Sengoku period, using stones provided by Toyotomi Hideyoshi for its foundation.
The castle grounds reflect the architectural preferences of Japanese fortification systems during the transition between Sengoku and Edo periods.
A stone marker guides visitors to the exact location where the castle once stood, now transformed into a public park.
Despite its brief existence of only 13 years before demolition in 1610, the castle served three major clans: Saitō, Oda, and Toyotomi.
