Shakujii Castle, building in Nerima-ku, Tokyo, Japan
Shakujii Castle was a Japanese castle located in the Shakujii-Dai area. Today, only earthen ramparts and moats remain visible, outlining where the fortress once stood.
The castle was built during the Sengoku period as a defensive outpost for the region. It was destroyed later and has remained in ruins since then.
The site is easily accessible with open space to explore the remaining earthworks. Visit during dry weather, as the ground can become muddy and slippery after rain.
Small trees and shrubs now grow across the site, following the ancient outlines. This vegetation has partly woven the old structure back into the land itself.
