Chikushi District, Former administrative district in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan
Chikushi District was a former administrative area in Fukuoka Prefecture located in the northern part of Kyushu island. It consisted of multiple municipalities that functioned together as a single district until administrative reforms changed its status.
The district was established on April 1, 1896, and underwent several administrative restructurings throughout its existence. Its final dissolution occurred in 2018 when one of its municipalities gained city status.
The district incorporated towns like Dazaifu, which maintained traditional Japanese religious structures and administrative centers from ancient times.
Today visitors will find no physical traces of the former district, as its municipalities now function as independent administrative units. To explore the area, one should visit the individual towns and their local centers.
Five distinct municipalities - Nakagawa, Dazaifu, Onojo, Kasuga, and Chikushino - formed the administrative components of this district throughout its existence.
