Moriyama Station, railway station in Moriyama, Shiga prefecture, Japan
Moriyama Station is a railway station in Moriyama City, Shiga Prefecture, built above ground with two opposing platforms linked by an elevated walkway. The station building has a staffed ticket office, elevators, escalators, restrooms, and lockers.
The station opened in April 1912 as part of the Japanese Government Railway and later came under the management of JR West. The current building dates from the early 1970s, after the original was destroyed during World War II.
The station is a daily meeting point for commuters and travelers passing through Moriyama. Small shops and cafés around the exits give passengers a place to stop between trains.
The station has elevators and escalators, making it easy to access for people with reduced mobility or with bicycles. Buses from the west exit serve various destinations around Moriyama, including the lakeside and nearby towns.
The original station building was bombed by American aircraft during World War II, causing loss of life among those present. The reconstruction that followed became a meaningful part of the local postwar story and is still remembered by older residents.
