Takizawa is a city in Iwate Prefecture positioned at the base of the Iwate Mountains, with the Kitakami River flowing to the east and the Shizukuishi River to the south. The town spreads across rolling terrain with residential neighborhoods mixed with rural farmland and forested areas.
The area was part of ancient Mutsu Province under Abe clan control during the Heian period. It became a municipality in 1889 and gained city status in 2014.
