Machiyama Highland Skating Center, Ice rink facility in Maebashi, Japan
Machiyama Highland Skating Center is an indoor ice rink in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, with a main surface used for figure skating, hockey, and recreational skating. The venue offers equipment rental and coaching services on-site.
The facility opened in 1967, making it one of the oldest ice sport venues in Gunma Prefecture. From early on, it served as a regular site for local and regional competitions.
The center draws skaters from across Gunma Prefecture, where beginners and experienced athletes share the same ice surface during open sessions. Coaches work directly on the ice, making it easy for visitors to observe how training happens in a real sports environment.
The rink is open Tuesday through Saturday, mainly during morning and early afternoon hours. First-time visitors can rent skates at the venue and book a coaching session before stepping onto the ice.
Although the area around Maebashi is not known for harsh winters, the indoor setup allows the rink to stay operational year-round. This means visitors can skate even in summer, which is unusual for a facility of this size outside of major cities.
