Kampong Speu Province is an administrative region in western Cambodia featuring fertile plains mixed with hills that support agriculture and settlements. The area is organized into several districts connected by road networks, with varied terrain ranging from lowlands to upland zones.
The province took its current administrative form in the early 1900s as Cambodia reorganized its regional structure. Chbar Mon was established as the main administrative center to govern this territory.

The region is accessible from Phnom Penh by road, though routes can become challenging during heavy rains. Travel and exploration are most comfortable during the dry season from December to March, when roads are in better condition.
Phnom Aural, a mountain in the Cardamom range within the province, stands as Cambodia's highest point. This isolated mountain area shelters rare plants and wildlife found nowhere else in the country.
