Stung Treng Bridge, Box girder bridge in Stung Treng Province, Cambodia.
Stung Treng Bridge is a concrete structure spanning 1,731 meters across the Mekong River with three main sections of 135 meters each. The bridge was designed with sufficient height to allow river traffic to pass underneath while supporting heavy vehicle loads above.
The bridge was completed in April 2015 by Shanghai Construction Group and Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision. Chinese government funding supported the project as part of broader regional infrastructure development.
The structure is officially named Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge, marking an important link between Stung Treng Province and neighboring communities where Khmer and Lao speakers live. The crossing has become part of local identity as a symbol of regional cooperation and improved access to surrounding regions.
The bridge connects National Highway 6, providing direct access between Stung Treng town and western Cambodia. This route significantly reduces travel time for visitors heading toward Siem Reap and other destinations in the region.
The bridge was built at a specific elevation to allow river boats to pass underneath while supporting heavy truck traffic above. This dual functionality represents an engineering solution that serves both water and road transport on this stretch of the Mekong.
