Cheorwon County

Located directly on the border with North Korea, Cheorwon County spans across mountainous terrains with numerous military installations and observation points.

The Korean War divided the original Cheorwon territory in 1953 along the Military Demarcation Line, creating separate counties in both North and South Korea.

The Memorial Tower of Baekma Goji commemorates the intense battles where the hill changed control multiple times during the Korean War conflict.

Visitors require permits and must join guided tours to access specific areas within the Civilian Control Line, which extends up to 20 kilometers from the DMZ.

The Second Tunnel, discovered in 1975 through underground explosions, extends 3.5 kilometers and represents North Korean infiltration attempts into South Korea.
