Gloucester Valley Battle Monument

The Gloucester Valley Battle Monument sits near the Seolmacheon stream with memorial stones set into a wall and military insignia plaques on the hillside. The site connects via Gloucester Bridge to a memorial garden that holds soldier statues and a commemorative wall.

The monument marks the location of the Battle of the Imjin River from April 22 to 25, 1951, when the British Gloucestershire Regiment faced Chinese forces. This clash became a defining moment in the Korean War and left lasting impact on the peninsula.

The site holds official status as a Registered Cultural Property of the Republic of Korea since 2008, reflecting its role in the nation's military story. Annual April services bring visitors and officials together each year to honor the soldiers who fought and died during this campaign.

The memorial is easily reached on foot and best visited in spring when annual services take place. There are no special facilities on site, so bring weather-appropriate clothing and be prepared for some stairs.
