Lotte World Tower, Supertall skyscraper in Songpa-gu, South Korea.
Lotte World Tower is a 123-story, 555-metre skyscraper in Sincheon-dong, Songpa District, Seoul. Its pale glass facade, inspired by Korean ceramics, rises from a broad base into a tapering spire, with a diagrid lantern-shaped steel roof covering floors 107–123.
Lotte Group announced a 108-storey tower beside Lotte World in 1987, but the project was cut back and then shelved during the 1997 financial crisis and over flight-safety objections from Seoul Air Base. Approval for 123 floors came on 11 November 2010, construction began in 2012, and the tower opened on 3 April 2017, the 50th anniversary of Lotte's founding.
The tower's name has shifted over the years: the 1994 plan called it simply "Second Lotte World," the 2006 design was named Lotte Super Tower, and only in 2011 did it take the name Lotte World Tower. Each April, Seokchon Lake beside the base hosts a free cherry blossom festival, held from April 1 to 9 in 2017 and March 27 to 31 in 2024.
A network of multiple lifts connects the different levels quickly, from underground floors to the observation deck at the top. Visitors should know that different sections may have varying opening hours.
Seoul Sky occupies floors 117 to 123, with its highest glass floor at 497.65 m and the 123 Lounge on the top level at 499 m. A double-deck elevator runs at 600 m per minute. On the roof, the Sky Bridge Tour stands at 541 m, the same height as One World Trade Center.
