Semipalatinsk Bridge

Semipalatinsk Bridge, Suspension bridge in Semey, Kazakhstan.

The Semipalatinsk Bridge is a steel suspension bridge in Semey that crosses the Irtysh River. It carries six traffic lanes and uses large cable stays to span the distance between its main towers.

Construction began in 1998 and finished ahead of schedule, with the official opening in October 2000. The project received engineering expertise from outside the country.

The bridge connects Semey's two sides and serves as a daily link between communities on opposite banks of the river. It has become part of how people in the city move through their everyday lives.

The roadway uses a special paving material designed to withstand heavy traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists should stay in marked areas and be aware of vehicle movement.

It is the only suspension bridge in Kazakhstan and stands out for the long distance between its main support towers. This makes it an unusual engineering example in the country.
