Karkaraly National Park, National park in Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan
Karkaraly National Park covers 90,323 hectares across the Karkaraly Range with pine forests, mountain lakes, and rocky formations that reach up to 1403 meters in elevation. The landscape combines dense woodlands with open ridges and multiple lakes at different heights.
The area began as a forest reserve in 1884 and was converted into a national park in 1998. Archaeological sites record human activity from the Stone Age through the Iron Age.
The Nature Museum displays native wildlife through exhibits and maintains a preserve with bison and red deer. This collection shows what naturally lives in the region.
Visitors can hike, cross-country ski during winter, and explore mountain lakes on marked trails. The best conditions for outdoor activities are from spring through fall, when paths are accessible and the weather is stable.
Lake Shaitankol maintains a constant water level despite having no visible water sources. Its depth and chemical composition remain scientifically unexplained.
