Esil District, Administrative district in Akmola Region, Kazakhstan
Esil District is an administrative district in the Akmola Region of northern Kazakhstan, made up of open steppe land and scattered rural settlements. The town of Esil, sharing the same name, serves as the administrative center and provides basic services for the surrounding communities.
The district was created in 1936 as part of the Soviet reorganization of Kazakhstan's territory into formal administrative units. Its boundaries have remained largely stable since then and still follow the lines drawn during that period.
In the villages of the district, Kazakh and Russian communities live side by side, and this mix is visible at local markets and seasonal gatherings. Traditional Kazakh foods and Russian-influenced baked goods appear on the same tables at community events.
The town of Esil is the best starting point for visiting the district, as it has the most facilities and connections to surrounding villages. The terrain is flat and open, but distances between settlements can be larger than expected, so planning ahead is helpful.
The Sileti River crosses parts of the district and has shaped where farming activity is concentrated in the area. The land near the river is among the most productive, which is why many of the older settlements were built along its banks.
