Shymkent arboretum

The Shymkent Arboretum is a large park containing over 105,000 trees and 30,000 plants that create a natural refuge within the city. A central lake and winding paths shape the layout of these gardens.

The arboretum was founded in 1979 as part of regional conservation efforts. It stands near the Kasiret Memorial, which commemorates significant events from the 1930s.

The arboretum functions as a meeting place where visitors discover Kazakhstan's native plants through guided tours and educational displays. It serves as a space where local families spend time outdoors and connect with the region's natural heritage.

The site is located on Baidibek Bi Avenue in northern Shymkent and offers bicycle rentals and boat rides on the central lake. Plan time for leisurely walks since the grounds are expansive.

The grounds support free-roaming roe deer, peacocks, squirrels, hedgehogs, and pheasants that wander among the trees. These animals are a surprising element of the visit and often appear along the walking paths.
