Khammouane Province

Khammouane Province extends over 16,315 square kilometers of mountainous terrain intersected by three major rivers flowing toward the Mekong River.

The territory formed part of the Sikhottabong Kingdom in the 6th century and contains numerous French colonial buildings in its capital Thakhek.

The province includes populations of Phouthai, Bru, and Khmu ethnic groups, each maintaining their specific traditions and customs throughout the districts.

The Third Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge connects the provincial capital Thakhek to Thailand across the Mekong River, facilitating regional commerce and transportation.

The limestone plateau contains an extensive network of natural caves, with one system stretching for 45 kilometers through the mountains.
