St. Louis Cathedral, Roman Catholic cathedral in Bab Idriss, Beirut, Lebanon
The sandstone cathedral features a prominent bell tower and incorporates elements of Romanesque and Byzantine architectural styles in its construction.
Built by Capuchin missionaries in 1864, the cathedral was named after King Louis IX of France and consecrated in 1868.
The cathedral represents the presence of the Latin Catholic community in Lebanon and maintains regular services for the Apostolic Vicariate of Beirut.
Located on the northern slope of Serail Hill, the cathedral reopened in 2002 after extensive restorations following damage during the civil war.
Three daughter churches emerged from this cathedral: in Baabdat in 1893, Hamra in 1937, and Badaro in 1960.
