Established in 1577, the archeparchy experienced substantial growth between 1850 and 1870, with the Maronite population increasing from 3,000 to 15,000 members.
The Saint George Cathedral serves as the central religious institution, maintaining centuries-old Maronite traditions and liturgical practices in the Lebanese capital.
The archeparchy headquarters operates from 10 rue College de la Sagesse in Achrafieh, Beirut, under the leadership of Archbishop Paul Abdel Sater.
Three popes have visited this archeparchy: Paul VI in 1964, John Paul II in 1997, and Benedict XVI in 2012, marking its significance within Catholicism.
