Taprobane Island

Taprobane Island is a privately owned island in Weligama Bay featuring a neo-Palladian mansion. The two-and-a-half-acre property includes tropical gardens, spacious living areas, verandahs, balconies, and an infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Count de Mauny-Talvande built the island residence in the 1920s. The property quickly became a destination for prominent guests, including royalty and heads of state.

The island connects visitors with local traditions through its dedicated staff who prepare authentic Sri Lankan dishes like curries and hoppers. This culinary experience allows guests to taste the flavors that define the region.

The island lies about four hours by car from Colombo International Airport or is accessible by helicopter transfer in under one hour. Visitors should know that this is private property and a visit must be arranged in advance.

The island is the only privately owned landmass in Sri Lanka with no other islands between its southern coast and Antarctica. This makes its location geographically isolated in a remarkable way.
