The Closenberg Hotel stands on a peninsula overlooking Galle Harbor, featuring 20 rooms within a colonial structure with seaside terraces and gardens.
The site originated in 1719 as a Dutch fortalice named Klossenburg, later transformed into Villa Marina by Captain Francis Bayley in 1861 before becoming a hotel.
The structure exhibits Dutch colonial architectural elements through its wide verandas, high ceilings, and period furnishings that reflect Sri Lankan maritime heritage.
The property provides modern amenities including an outdoor pool, two restaurants, complimentary internet access, and free parking just 3 kilometers from Galle Cricket Stadium.
The hotel maintains its original stipulation from 1889 that ownership must remain within the Abeywardena family, who converted the mansion into accommodations in 1965.
