Sunandarama Vihara, Buddhist temple in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka
Sunandarama Vihara stands 200 meters east of Ambalangoda railway station, extending across 5 acres of land in the southern region of Sri Lanka.
The temple grounds date back to the 18th century BCE, with the sacred Bodhi tree planted in 1750 before the construction of the main structures.
The temple walls display frescoes from 1805 that illustrate Jathaka stories using red, brown, black, and blue colors in the hill country artistic tradition.
The temple complex consists of two levels, with the lower tier containing the sermon hall and monastery, while the upper level houses the main shrine and statue.
A concrete bell arch rises 30 meters high and 18 meters wide, featuring detailed carvings and a mechanical bell weighing 250 kilograms.
