Old Army Headquarters, Military command center in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Old Army Headquarters was a military installation in Colombo located next to Galle Face Green, containing administrative offices and a military hospital. The complex housed various departments including the General Staff and other administrative branches for military operations.
The British military established the headquarters during colonial Ceylon and expanded it significantly during World War II. The increased use was part of Colombo's defense efforts during wartime.
The headquarters was known for its Traditional Corps of Drums that performed at ceremonial events, representing military heritage through music. These ensembles were a visible part of Colombo's military traditions and public celebrations.
The location next to Galle Face Green made it easy to reach and recognize in the city. Since the complex was demolished in 2012, visitors can only see the historic site where the building once stood.
The installation was deemed too vulnerable after two attacks in 1995 and 2006. Military operations were relocated to a new location before the historic complex was eventually demolished.
