Hôtel de Bourgogne, Palace in Ville Haute, Luxembourg.
The Hôtel de Bourgogne is a palace in the Ville Haute district of Luxembourg City, located on rue de la Congrégation near Notre-Dame Cathedral. The multi-story building merges different architectural styles and features a distinctive entrance staircase tower on its facade.
The building was first mentioned in 1447 and was constructed on the site of former coin-making workshops belonging to the counts of Luxembourg. This origin shaped its early significance in the city.
The entrance staircase tower displays Gothic and Renaissance features with preserved brick columns and pointed arches. These architectural elements mark a transition between two major style periods and shape how the building appears to visitors today.
The palace is located in the old city center, easily walkable from other historical sites in the area. The exterior can be viewed at any time since it is a building visible from the street.
The building carried different names throughout its past: Maison du Fay, Berbourg, Metternich, and finally Hôtel de Bourgogne. These name changes reflect shifting control and use of the palace by different rulers across the centuries.
