Corniche, Fortified promenade in Old Town, Luxembourg
The Chemin de la Corniche extends from the Bock Promontory to the Holy Ghost Citadel, providing views over the Alzette Valley and Grund district.
Spanish and French forces constructed the defensive ramparts of the Corniche during the 17th century, incorporating them into Luxembourg City's fortification system.
Luxembourg writer Batty Weber designated this elevated path as Europe's prime viewing gallery, drawing photographers and artists throughout the seasons.
The walking path remains accessible daily at Chemin de la Corniche L-1468, with multiple entry points from the upper old town.
Before 1870, steep sections of the Corniche contained staircases that were leveled following the fortress dismantling, altering the original military design.
