Doukkala-Abda, Former administrative region in west-central Morocco.
Doukkala-Abda is a former administrative region in west-central Morocco comprising four provinces: El Jadida, Safi, Sidi Bennour, and Youssoufia. These provinces span a large area with varied landscapes ranging from coastal zones to inland territories.
It served as one of Morocco's sixteen administrative divisions from 1997 until its dissolution in 2015. This reorganization reshaped the country's administrative structure and created new regional configurations.
El Jadida and Sidi Bennour represent the historic Doukkala territory, while Safi and Youssoufia correspond to the traditional Abda area. These distinct zones maintain separate local identities and economic practices that visitors can still observe today.
Access to the four provinces is provided through various main roads and connecting routes that enable travel across the entire area. The best time to explore is during spring or autumn when weather conditions are pleasant and travel is easier.
The area combines multiple economic activities: fishing along the coasts, phosphate extraction inland, and agriculture in fertile zones. This mix of industries gives it significance as a production hub for the country.
