Tsambagarav Uul National Park, National park in Bayan-Olgii Province, Mongolia.
Tsambagarav Uul is a national park centered on a snow-capped mountain in Bayan-Olgii Province with alpine landscapes and rugged terrain. The park spans various elevations and contains glaciers along with glacial lakes.
The park was established in 2000 by Mongolia's Ministry of Environment to protect the ecosystems and endangered species living there. The region has long been grazing land for herders and continues this use today.
Kazakh and Uriankhai herders live as nomads in this region, moving their animals across seasonal pastures throughout the year. You may encounter these communities while trekking through the highlands.
The best time to visit is from June through September when mountain passes are open and weather is more stable. Prepare for cold nights and wear layers, especially if you plan to hike.
The mountain is home to one of Central Asia's most important snow leopard populations, which live in these heights. The argali sheep here are among the world's largest wild sheep species and stand out for their impressive horns.
