Khan-Khokhi Khyargas Mountain National Park

Khan-Khokhi Khyargas Mountain National Park spans mountainous terrain with steep slopes and flat-topped peaks reaching 2,928 meters (9,600 feet). The landscape includes varied elevations and ridgelines that form the main features across the protected area.

The park was established in 2000 as part of Mongolia's efforts to protect important natural areas from further change. Ancient burial mounds scattered throughout the territory show the long human presence in these mountains.

The park surrounds Khan Khuckii, one of Mongolia's sacred mountains that has held spiritual importance in local traditions for centuries. Visitors can sense how this place remains deeply rooted in the natural spirituality and beliefs of the region.

The terrain divides into two distinct zones: northern slopes receive more moisture supporting forest cover, while southern slopes are drier with more open habitats. Weather and lighting conditions shift noticeably depending on which side of the ridge you are on.

The area holds two separate ecosystems: the mountain forest in the Khankhukhii section and the Khyargas lake zone, each supporting different animal populations. These side-by-side habitats create contrasting natural scenes for visitors traveling through the park.
