The national park covers 3,413 square kilometers of terrain, featuring the Khangai Mountains extension with steep slopes and flat mountain tops reaching 2,928 meters.
The park, established in 2000, encompasses ancient burial mounds and represents a significant advancement in Mongolia's environmental conservation initiatives.
The protected area includes Khan Khuckii, one of Mongolia's ten sacred mountains, reflecting the deep connection between nature and traditional Mongolian spirituality.
The northern slopes receive 300mm of annual rainfall supporting forests of Siberian larch and pine, while the southern slopes get 150mm creating semi-arid conditions.
The park contains two distinct ecological zones: the Khankhukii mountain forest ecosystem and the Khyargas lake area, each supporting different wildlife populations.
