Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, Nadur, Minor basilica in Nadur, Malta.
The Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul in Nadur is a church built in Renaissance style with symmetrical facades and impressive architectural details. The building features two distinctive bell towers and a central dome that rises prominently above the entire structure.
Construction of this church began in the middle of the 18th century under the direction of a local architect. The project spanned more than one hundred years until it was finally completed in the second half of the 19th century.
The basilica is named after two apostles who hold deep meaning for believers in the Christian tradition. Locals gather here regularly to pray together and celebrate major religious festivals throughout the year.
When visiting, dress respectfully as this is an active place of worship where people come to pray. It is helpful to check beforehand when services or special ceremonies are taking place to choose the best time for your visit.
Inside, the decorations were created by an Italian artist who incorporated elaborate geometric patterns and religious symbols throughout the interior spaces. This artistic finishing shows the craftsmanship of Italian Renaissance work brought to Malta.
