San Pawl Milqi

San Pawl Milqi is a Roman villa complex in Burmarrad containing stone walls, floors, and remains of olive oil production facilities. The ruins reveal how residents organized agricultural work and processed their harvest.

The site first saw settlements during the Bronze Age, later used by Phoenicians, before Romans built their agricultural complex. The different layers of occupation show how use of the place evolved across centuries.

The site is tied to religious tradition suggesting Saint Publius, Malta's first bishop, met Saint Paul here after his shipwreck. This connection shapes how visitors understand and experience the place today.

Access to the site is managed by Heritage Malta, and it remains closed throughout the year except for a special public opening in February. Visitors should check ahead to make sure they arrive during this limited window to view the remains.

This is the largest Roman villa complex uncovered on the Maltese islands, positioned strategically near the ancient Roman harbor of Salina. This location likely helped the owner easily export products and import resources.
