Salina Catacombs, Archaeological burial site in Naxxar, Malta.
The Salina Catacombs contain five hypogea carved into a quarry face, featuring decorated pillars, window tombs, and underground passages near the Church of Annunciation.
These catacombs reflect the presence of a large community in the region during the last half of the first millennium AD, near a former Roman harbor.
The carved decorations, including palm fronds, spiral patterns, and incised crosses throughout the tombs, demonstrate early Christian burial practices in Malta.
Heritage Malta manages the site, which requires advance appointments for visits and accompaniment by staff members, with tours lasting approximately 45 minutes.
The catacombs include rare baldacchino tombs typically found only in Rabat, along with an agape table surrounded by decorated window burial chambers.
