Gadoufaoua, Cretaceous fossil site in Tenere Desert, Niger

The site contains numerous petrified tree trunks emerging from the desert floor alongside fossilized bones of prehistoric creatures and dinosaurs.

French geologists documented this location in the 1950s, identifying it as part of a 100-mile stretch containing the most concentrated dinosaur remains in Africa.

The Tuareg people named this area Gadoufaoua, which translates to 'the place where camels fear to go' due to its desolate landscape.

Researchers conduct excavations during nighttime hours using generator-powered spotlights to unearth dinosaur remains in more comfortable temperatures.

The site yielded the discovery of Sarcosuchus imperator in 1997, including a six-foot skull from this prehistoric crocodile species.
