Sagamu, Local government area in Ogun State, Nigeria
Sagamu is a local government area in Ogun State situated between Lagos and Ibadan along the Ibu River and surrounding waterways. The region comprises multiple towns spread across its administrative boundaries.
Sagamu was established in the mid-1800s when Remo Yoruba people settled in the area and built their communities. Over time, the settlements developed into the current administrative structure.
The Akarigbo of Remo, residing in the Offin district, leads the traditional governance structure with four ruling families entitled to wear beaded crowns.
The region serves as Nigeria's main center for kola nut collection and distribution, with active limestone mines and cement plants throughout the area. You will see signs of this commercial and industrial activity as you travel through the different parts of the region.
The local administrative structure divides Sagamu into three development areas: Sagamu West, Sagamu Central, and Sagamu South LCDA for enhanced governance.
