Zeewolde, Administrative municipality in Flevoland, Netherlands
Zeewolde is a municipality in Flevoland built on reclaimed polder land with a flat, open landscape. The town sits between Wolderwijd lake to the east and Horsterwold forest, a large expanse of deciduous woodland extending across the western side.
The municipality was created in the 1980s as a planned settlement on newly reclaimed polder land after the area was artificially drained from water. Early residents arrived in the late 1970s and began building the community from the ground up.
The name Zeewolde combines 'sea' and 'forest,' reflecting its position between the lake and surrounding woodlands. Visitors can observe how nature and settlement coexist here, with wild Konik horses freely roaming across open areas.
The area is relatively flat and easy to navigate, with good accessibility through bus connections to neighboring towns like Harderwijk, Nijkerk, and Almere. Public transportation is the most practical way to reach other locations from here.
Wolderwijd lake features a constructed atoll near Woldstrand designed specifically for swimming and diving. This unusual bathing spot offers visitors a chance to enjoy water activities in an area where such facilities are relatively uncommon.
