The municipality was created on January 1, 2022 from the merger of Landerd and Uden following local referendums and official approval. This joining brought together two established communities under one administration.

Visitors can reach the municipal office through the website gemeentemaashorst.nl or by contacting the main office. The various villages are easy to explore by car or bicycle, with local roads connecting the different centers.
The name comes from a nature reserve situated between the different village centers. The eastern section of this area belongs to the De Peel region, known for its wetlands and peat bog landscapes.
