Davao del Norte, Administrative division in Davao Region, Philippines
Davao del Norte is a province in the Davao Region on Mindanao, covering lowland plains, mountain ranges, and coastal stretches. The capital sits in Tagum City, while the territory includes eleven separate municipalities and urban centers.
The province was created in 1967 through legislation that split the original large Davao territory into smaller administrative units. In the decades since, Tagum grew into the economic center of the area.
Residents speak mainly Cebuano, while Lumad communities in the uplands preserve their languages and customs. Many towns celebrate local fiestas that blend harvest cycles with religious observances.
Buses and jeepneys run between Tagum and all other towns on paved roads. Ferries connect the mainland with Samal Island, which sits off the coast.
Plantations cover much of the lowland and supply bananas for global export. In some coastal villages, you can still see traditional fishing with handmade nets.
