This protected area stretches along the Davao Gulf coast and contains mangrove forests, sandy beaches, and extensive coral reef systems. Multiple ecosystems sit side by side, supporting each other and creating a layered landscape.
The area was designated as a wilderness zone in 1981 and later designated a protected landscape in 2000. This formal recognition marked a turning point for safeguarding this coastal region.
Local fishing communities work to protect marine resources while using methods passed down through generations. Visitors can observe this living connection between people and nature when exploring the coastal villages.
The area can be reached through nine rivers flowing into Davao Gulf, offering multiple entry points for visitors. The main access lies roughly 80 kilometers east of Davao City.
The seafloor holds 46 different coral genera, a rare concentration of coral diversity found in one location. The waters also serve as a feeding ground for 11 whale and dolphin species that return regularly to these coasts.
