Tagoloan, municipality of the Philippines in the province of Misamis Oriental
Tagoloan is a coastal municipality in Misamis Oriental Province in the Philippines, located along Macajalar Bay. The area is made up of ten barangays, with flat land near the shore giving way to gentle hills further inland.
Tagoloan's origins go back to the 1600s, when missionaries arrived and helped form the first settlements in the area. The town was occupied during World War II and later freed by allied forces, after which residents gradually rebuilt their lives.
The Church of Our Lady of Candlemas sits at the heart of daily life in this town. Every February 2, residents gather there for the feast day, marked by processions and shared prayers that bring the whole community together.
The municipality is well connected by paved roads linking all barangays, and tricycles are the most common way to get around locally. Visiting during the day is advisable, as most activity takes place in the morning and early afternoon.
The barangay of Casinglot is home to a container port, which is one of the few of its kind along this stretch of Mindanao's northern coast. Despite the town's small size, cargo ships pass through regularly, linking the local area directly to national trade routes.
