Rodriguez

Rodriguez is a municipality in Rizal, Philippines, spanning mountain slopes, open valleys, and cultivated farmland. The area includes eleven barangays with residential neighborhoods, market centers, and dirt roads connected by paved streets and public transit routes.

The settlement began in 1871 under the name Montalban and was renamed in 1982 to honor the politician Eulogio Rodriguez. The change followed a decision by the national government to recognize the contributions of the statesman.

The name honors a Philippine statesman, while the eleven barangays serve as administrative units and neighborhood gathering points for local meetings. Many residents visit public markets on weekends, where vendors sell fresh produce from surrounding farms.

Regular buses run from Manila toward the municipality, with travel times varying depending on traffic and time of day. Visitors should plan to leave early in the morning when roads are less crowded and journeys are shorter.

Mount Irid reaches 1469 meters (4820 feet) within the boundaries, making it the tallest point in the area. Hikers occasionally use this peak for climbs lasting several hours through dense forest and steep sections.
