Parish of the Holy Sacrifice, Modernist Catholic church at University of the Philippines, Philippines
The Parish of the Holy Sacrifice is a modernist church on the campus of the University of the Philippines in Quezon City, featuring a circular concrete structure. A dome rises above the space, supported by crossed arches that frame the central altar, around which the seating curves in concentric rings.
The building was designed in 1955 by Philippine architect Leandro Locsin and constructed with funds raised from the university community. Faculty members and students contributed portions of their salaries and allowances to make the construction possible.
The walls display fifteen murals depicting the Stations of the Cross, created by local artists Vicente Manansala and Ang Kiukok, while the marble altar came from sculptor Napoleon Abueva. These artworks shape how visitors experience the interior and blend architecture with Filipino artistic practice.
The building sits within the Diliman campus of the university and is open to both members of the campus community and public visitors. The circular design and central placement of the altar help ensure good sight lines and sound throughout the space for all who gather here.
The structure received official recognition as both a National Historical Landmark and an Important Cultural Property from the National Museum in 2005. This dual designation reflects its significance in modern Philippine sacred architecture and as a product of community-driven funding.
