Ateneo de Manila University, Research university in Quezon City, Philippines
Ateneo de Manila University is a private research university in the Loyola Heights district of Quezon City, Philippines. The grounds stretch along Katipunan Avenue and include several libraries, art galleries, theaters, and sports facilities for students and faculty.
A small private school opened its doors in 1859 in Intramuros, the old walled district of Manila. After heavy wartime damage, the institution moved to its current location in Loyola Heights in 1952.
The campus follows Jesuit traditions of formation that visitors can see in the blue and white school colors displayed across buildings and student uniforms. Daily academic life reflects a focus on service and ethical formation through visible community programs and student-led initiatives.
The main entrance is along Katipunan Avenue with several access points along the road for visitors and students. The grounds are expansive, so checking the location of specific buildings before a visit is helpful.
The campus houses the Rizal Library complex, named after the Philippine national hero and containing one of the largest academic collections in the country. Visitors often notice the many chapels and prayer rooms across the grounds, reflecting the religious dimension of higher education here.
