Luna, Provincial capital in Apayao, Philippines
Luna spans across 606 square kilometers of land in the Cordillera Administrative Region, featuring elevations from 3 to 349 meters above sea level.
The municipality originated from a settlement called Macatel, renamed by Ilocano explorer Antonino Barroga from Dingras, Ilocos Norte in 1929.
The municipality contains 22 barangays where residents maintain traditional Filipino community structures through local government and neighborhood organizations.
The New Apayao Government Center houses provincial offices, serving administrative functions for the entire Apayao region at coordinates 18°20'N 121°22'E.
Luna experienced substantial population growth from 2,202 residents in 1918 to 21,297 in 2020, marking a tenfold increase over a century.
