Tubod, municipality of the Philippines and capital of the province of Lanao del Norte
Tubod is a municipality in Lanao del Norte province that serves as the capital with a simple layout of small shops, markets, and government buildings centered in town. It comprises 24 barangays across mostly flat terrain overlooking Panguil Bay, where agriculture and fishing are the main economic activities.
Tubod was settled by people from the Visayas and Luzon regions and developed into a trading and farming community over time. The town gradually grew from around 32,000 residents in the late 1900s to over 50,000 today while maintaining its simple character and local traditions.
The name Tubod comes from a local spring that never runs dry, even in the hottest seasons, meaning water source in the Cebuano language. Residents celebrate together with traditional music, dance, and food, with Muslim and Christian communities living peacefully and participating in shared festivals and community events.
Small motorbikes and tricycles are the most practical ways to get around town for short trips. The town is flat and easy to navigate, with open markets and parks where you can walk and explore at a leisurely pace.
The Panguil Bay Bridge connects Tubod to Tangub City and stretches about 3.8 kilometers across the bay, offering views of water and hills during crossing. The annual Sagingan Festival celebrates the banana harvest with colorful costumes made from banana materials and street parades, showcasing community pride in this important crop.
