Malagonlong Bridge, Stone arch bridge in Tayabas, Philippines.
Malagonlong Bridge is a stone arch bridge in Tayabas that spans the Dumaca River. It features five arches that decrease in size from the central span, and serves today as a pedestrian crossing where people can view the river and photograph the stonework.
Construction of this Spanish colonial bridge began in 1841 under Franciscan priest Antonio Mateos as a major infrastructure project. The undertaking involved extensive resources and represented an important connection route across the river during that era.
The bridge demonstrates traditional Filipino construction techniques, blending stone masonry with local materials such as molasses and eggs for greater durability. These methods reflect generations of knowledge about building lasting connections across rivers.
The bridge is now closed to vehicles, but pedestrians can access it from the Barangay Mateuna or Lakawan sides. This arrangement allows visitors to view the structure and river closely without traffic concerns.
The bridge features six viewing platforms that each offer different perspectives of the water flow and stone arches. These thoughtfully designed vantage points allow visitors to fully appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering details of the structure.
