Mount Timolan Protected Landscape

Mount Timolan Protected Landscape is a nature park with steep slopes, rolling hills, and several freshwater lakes scattered throughout the forested terrain on Mindanao's Zamboanga Peninsula. The area includes hiking trails lit by solar lamps, an eco-lodge, and facilities for water activities and picnicking.

The provincial government declared the area a wildlife sanctuary in 1992, and President Joseph Estrada designated it as a protected landscape in 2000. These two actions established the legal foundation for the forest's current protection.

Local barangay communities participate actively in protecting the land and share their knowledge of the natural surroundings with visitors. This involvement shows how residents view the area as integral to their way of life.

Explore the trails at your own pace, and wear sturdy footwear since the terrain is steep and can be slippery in places. Budget extra time for the climb and make use of the picnic areas and facilities distributed throughout the grounds.

Lake Maragang at the summit is a crater lake shaped like a heart, creating a striking sight especially from above. This unusual form and its dramatic volcanic origin make it a memorable focal point for visitors reaching the top.
